MAJOR WINNERS AMONG SUPERSTAR FIELD CONFIRMED FOR THE 2023 FARMFOODS BRITISH PAR 3 CHAMPIONSHIP

10 Jul MAJOR WINNERS AMONG SUPERSTAR FIELD CONFIRMED FOR THE 2023 FARMFOODS BRITISH PAR 3 CHAMPIONSHIP

A SUPERSTAR field of golfers will take part in the Farmfoods’ British Par 3 Championship it can be announced today.

Major winners Ian Woosnam and Michael Campbell will compete in golf’s “ultimate challenge” alongside stars including former Senior PGA champion Fraser Mann, European tour winners Jean Van De Velde, Scott Drummond, Jarmo Sandelin and Mark Mouland.

The event, which will also see a host of celebrities taking part, is free to attend and comes at a time when the spotlight on golf’s short game has never been brighter.

Just last month, those watching Day Three of the US Open were left gripped after tournament organisers created the shortest yardage ever for any Par 3 in tournament history at 81 yards.

Now, those attending the Par 3 Championship at Nailcote Hall in Berkswell, Coventry, will get to see competitors tackling a series of hugely challenging holes over a similar distance.

Two-time Major Winner Tony Jacklin, who will be hosting the event in August, said: “The thing I love most about the Par 3 is that it really tests those taking part to the limit. There’s a lot of talk about who can drive the ball the furthest or who can hit the longest irons from the fairway.

“But it’s the short game that often makes the difference and throws up the trickiest challenges. That’s why, in many ways, the Farmfoods British Par 3 provides the ultimate test for professionals and amateurs alike.”

The event this year, taking place between the 8th – 11th of August, will be extra special, as it will be celebrating the 90th year of the tournament whilst also celebrating the 25th year that it has been held at the prestigious Nailcote Hall.

Celebrities due to take part in this year’s tournament include comedian Bobby Davro, former WBC lightweight champion John Conteh MBE, and beloved Harry Potter star, Ollie Phelps. There will also be an Ashes theme to the event as cricketing legends Darren Gough, Ashley Giles, Steve Harmison and Matthew Hoggard are all due to take part.

Ryder Cup star and the first Farmfoods British Par 3 winner at Nailcote Hall, Peter Baker said:
“I will never forget winning the event. It’s such a good tournament to play as it breaks up the norm. It’s a short but very difficult course but it made my short game better.”

Looking ahead to the event, Ian Woosnam said: “I’m so looking forward to playing again this year. It’s great to see professionals competing against celebrities.”

The Farmfoods British Par 3 is a unique tournament, as it sees both men and women competing against each other in a competitive and dynamic environment.

Charley Hull, who has featured in the tournament for a number of years, said: “I always have a great time. I’ve been playing it since I was nine years old and have great memories of playing with Mark Mouland and Tony Jacklin. They were both formative in my career and a great support to me. The event has such a fun atmosphere, but at the same time it’s very competitive and a tricky course.”

Around 10,000 spectators are expected to attend the event, and free tickets are already available at britishpar3.com. If you are unable to make the event, then highlights will be broadcast on Sky Sports.
