17 Apr Local Essex Charity, Wilderness Foundation UK Announces its Awe and Wonder Appeal
Wilderness Foundation UK joins Earth Day (April 22nd) to support protection of the environment. It will use the opportunity to launch its Awe and Wonder Appeal, raising vital funds to improve mental wellbeing through nature, whilst learning how to care for the earth.
Wilderness Foundation UK connects nature and people, drawing on how the natural world’s science, and awe and wonder we feel when looking at the beauty of nature, can help us improve our mental wellbeing.
Therefore, in conjunction with the charity’s recent announcement of its Project Giving Back-sponsored garden at RHS Chelsea Flower Show this May 24th – 28th, the Awe and Wonder Appeal aims to establish a lasting legacy for the garden. The garden showcases the essence of the work of the Foundation carries out, reflecting the joy, awe and wonder a child can feel when spending time in a green and natural space.
Each year Wilderness Foundation UK works with over 7,000 people, including some of the hardest-to-reach and most disadvantaged young people and adults in society. The charity offers outdoor education and therapy programmes that build long term resilience and independence, alongside environmental education including climate change and sustainability.
The need for nature therapy programmes has never been greater, as the number of people suffering from mental health continues to rise. Post Covid, 1 in 4 now struggle with mental issues. This is fast becoming one of our greatest social crises.
So, the Awe and Wonder Appeal hopes to encourage donations that will support more nature based outdoor therapy sessions and school outreach. Donations can be made at: https://wildernessfoundation.org.uk/donate/
Wilderness Foundation UK is also offering a chance to visit the show to raise extra funds:
