25 May Livewire Rock Academy’s charity concert with Iron Maiden’s Dennis Stratton hailed a success
Livewire Rock Academy played one of their celebrated charity concerts last Sunday, 22nd May which included a special guest appearance from Iron Maiden’s former guitarist Dennis Stratton.
The students from the four Livewire schools, based in Saffron Walden, Great Dunmow, Bishop’s Stortford and Epping played a 2 hour set at the Southmill Arts venue in Bishop’s Stortford to a sell out crowd numbering 300 people.
The 17 song set list included songs by The White Stripes, Blur, Fontaines DC, The Hives with Dennis joining the students to play Iron Maiden’s Running Free, Deep Purple’s Smoke On The Water and AC/DC’s It’s A Long Way To The Top (If You Wanna Rock ‘n Roll)
A charity rock raffle featuring prizes donated from Marshall Amps and the record distributor Little Amber Fish raised money for Grove Cottage.
Dennis signed a black Gibson SG guitar which was given away as the first prize in the raffle.
After the concert students got autographs and took selfies with the rock star.
Manager Simon Baker was delighted with the event.
“I want to thank Dennis and his wife Julia for taking the time to come along and spend time with our young students. He’s a real inspiration, and an absolute show-man on stage. The kids and parents were so excited to have him there and he definitely made the evening very special for all of us” he stated.
“We hope to be able to give Grove Cottage a good donation next month, and look forward to our next concert later this year”.
The students from Livewire will be appearing at next weekend’s Bish Bash, aka the Stortford Music Festival where they will be playing sets on both days.
