05 Nov Livewire Rock Academy Raise £1000 for Grove Cottage
Livewire Rock Academy, the Epping-based school of rock have raised £1000 for the a Mencap charity, the Bishop’s Stortford-based Grove Cottage at their recent live concert at Southmill Arts in Bishop’s Stortford.
The rock school, which also has outlets in Bishop’s Stortford, Saffron Walden and Great Dunmow show-cased their talented students at the local arts venue earlier this month with a live set featuring songs by Arctic Monkeys, Metallica, The Jam, White Stripes, Nirvana, Foo Fighters and many more.
Livewire concerts feature a “rock raffle” in the interval, the proceeds of which are regularly donated to Grove Cottage.
The rock school have recently given the charity a cheque for £400 for their summer concert in May, but the recent event featured a special prize that enabled the school to donate more money.
Owner and manager of the schools, Simon Baker said “We asked all the record and Hi-Fi stores in the country if they would donate prizes.
We were subsequently swamped with a huge amount of prizes; records, t-shirts, CDs, books, a guitar amp from Juno Records, and an amazing gift of £1000-worth of stereo equipment from Audio Gold HiFi in London.
I decided I couldn’t let that particular prize go on a £1 raffle ticket so we auctioned it off. One very generous parent bid up to £750, hence our increased charity donation to Grove Cottage this term. We want to thank Audio Gold and all the stores that so kindly donated prizes, and the parents for giving so generously! It was an embarrassment of riches on our raffle table!”
Livewire Rock Academy was established in 2009 and takes place on a Thursday evening in the hall of Coopersale Hall school in Epping. They teach children and adults electric guitar, bass and drums at it’s four outlets.
