How to Get the Most Value Out of Your Home Renovation

25 Jan How to Get the Most Value Out of Your Home Renovation

As we embark on a new year, many of us are finally looking to give our homes the much-needed makeovers they deserve.

In a recent survey of 2,000 Brits, 70% agreed they wanted to finally focus on improving their homes once and for all in 2021.

As the global pandemic forced many of us to spend more time indoors, the thirst for home improvement has significantly increased.

If you’re planning to renovate your home this year, here are a few top tips on how to get the most value out of your project.

Get inspired

Before diving in headfirst, it’s important to do your research and find out what trends you like and consider what will work within the space and layout you have. If you’re seeking inspiration, why not check out a few home and interior influencers online?

Here are a few popular names to begin your search:

Plan, plan, plan

Next, it’s time to create a plan that works alongside your overall budget. The easiest way to do this is by deciding which rooms need the most work, but try to prioritise the areas you spend most of your time in. According to recent studies, 68% of British buyers would most like an open plan kitchen and dining area. This is a great go-to if you plan to sell your home in future and want to add as much value as possible to it.

Keep in mind that all home renovations can be costly, so be sure to consider your financial position before embarking on this mission!

Conversions

Utilising all the space within your home can hugely increase its value, as it gives potential buyers more for their money. If you have an attic, loft conversions are a popular choice for making an easy storage space or even an extra bedroom or study if you have enough room to do so. If you have a basement, this could be converted into a wine cellar or a games room to appeal to families looking to buy.

Decorating

Colour and décor can really make a house a home and finding your own style is vital to making your living space feel personalised to your taste.

Top tip: while walls can be repainted and furniture can be swapped as per the current interior trends, remember that fitted rooms such as kitchens and bathrooms are expensive to replace. We recommend going for a simple, timeless design so that if you ever decide to sell your home later down the line, they won’t appear dated.
