16 May Here’s the local Youth Rugby Team that got muddy for charity!
On Sunday 14 May, the Under 8’s team from Burnham-on-Crouch Rugby Club took part in the Nuclear Rookie Races, raising £1,002 for Helen Rollason Cancer Charity.
The team, along with three members of the Under 6’s squad, completed a gruelling 1.5km obstacle race through the muddy course at Nuclear Races in Brentwood, Essex.
Organised by coaches Laura Stacey and Ben Harris, the group decided to use the team-building exercise as an opportunity to fundraise for charity. One of the club’s long-standing members, Blake Ashworth-Leech, sadly lost his grandmother Vivienne Leech, last September after a brave battle with cancer.
Laura Stacey, Under-8’s Coach, says of the event: “We are incredibly proud of all of the children that took part in the Nuclear Rookie Races. Everyone showed brilliant sportsmanship and teamwork on the day. It’s wonderful that we’ve been able to raise a great sum of money for such a fantastic charity, too.”
