10 May GAME CHANGER RETURNS: HARLEQUINS’ ANNUAL FIXTURE BACK FOR THIRD INSTALMENT
Harlequins will welcome Wasps to The Twickenham Stoop on Saturday 13 May, as fans are set for the return of the Club’s annual Game Changer fixture.
Created to support the continued growth of Women’s rugby in England, Harlequins’ Game Changer fixture has proven successful since its inaugural fixture in 2019. The first edition of The Game Changer saw Quins take on Gloucester-Hartpury in March 2019, setting a new attendance record for Women’s club rugby, with 4,837 fans showing their support.
Continuing to lead the way for the Women’s game, Harlequins went on to set new records during the 2021 Big Game 13 event at Twickenham Stadium. As well as being the first Allianz Premier 15s match to be played at the home of English rugby, the game attracted a record-smashing attendance of 9,000 and an all-time league broadcast record, with 99,000 people tuning into the match on BT Sport. In March this year, Harlequins beat their own record for attendance at a Women’s club game, as 15,420 fans watched them take on Exeter Chiefs in Big Game 14 at Twickenham Stadium.
In this year’s return of The Game Changer, fans can expect to see a celebration of Women’s rugby that promises action both on and off the field for all fans and families alike.
Additionally, this year’s Game Changer event will also feature as the Club’s Pride fixture, a celebration of the LGBTQ+ community, which aims to champion inclusivity and positively impact the experience of the LGBTQ+ people within sport.
Off the pitch, those in attendance can expect a variety of activities including mascots, a range of food and beverage concessions, as well as the opening of the North Village, with games and face painting, and much more, making The Game Changer the perfect family day out.
Head Coach, Amy Turner commented:
“This will be my first Game Changer, but it’s something I’ve watched develop from the outside and I’m looking forward to being a part of it this year and welcoming another big crowd down at The Stoop.
“Women’s rugby has seen huge growth over the past few years and Quins has always been at the forefront with fixtures such as the Game Changer. Off the back of what I’m sure will be an exciting Six Nations, we want to showcase the quality of the club game, too. We’re really looking forward to putting on another great show for fans at The Stoop.”
