Frinton Summer Theatre welcomes Toby Jones

22 Apr Frinton Summer Theatre welcomes Toby Jones

Toby Jones will appear in a special one-off “audience with…” at Frinton Summer Theatre on Sunday 16th June it has been announced.
The star of The Detectorists and Mr Bates vs The Post Office, the recent ITV phenomenon which caused political outrage earlier this year, will take part in a special fund-raising evening in the run up to the Frinton Summer Theatre season.
Bringing another huge star to the Essex coast is an incredible coup for Frinton Summer Theatre, the country’s longest running professional summer repertory theatre, after Succession superstar Brian Cox was part of last year’s programme.
The announcement comes as tickets for this year’s season go on sale on April 18th and it promises to be another truly sensational year of fabulous theatre in Frinton this summer.
This year’s season kicks off with the Olympic-themed play Chariots of Fire on July 5th which runs until July 13th. It is followed by the UK premiere of Peter Quilter’s comedy, Bestseller, which runs from July 16th to 20th, and with Terence Rattigan’s psychological family drama The Winslow Boy being performed from July 23rd to 27th.
Between July 30th and August 3rd there will be a double bill when Constellations, the Olivier award-winning West End hit by Nick Payne, partners up with Tim Whitnall’s dark comedy The Sociable Plover.

From August 6th to 10th, Anton Burge’s bittersweet portrait of the original TV chef Fanny Craddock and her eccentric last days at the BBC are depicted in Fanny’s Burning. The McGrigor Hall season is concluded between August 13th and 17th with the famous and hilarious West End hit Noises Off by Michael Frayn.

Attention then turns to the Big Top Tent on Frinton Greensward, which this year will host Irving Berlin’s popular musical Annie Get Your Gun. Featuring the much-loved songs There’s No Business Like Show Business and Anything You Can Do (I Can Do Better), performances will take place from August 20th to September 1st.

All evening performances start at 7.30pm with matinee performances at 3pm. Tickets to the McGrigor Hall productions range from £20 to £27 and go on sale from Thursday, April 18th. For Annie Get Your Gun in the Big Top tent, tickets cost from £40 to £45 with U16s half price (matinees only) and Blue Light card discounts available. Group discounts are also available for bookings of more than 10 people.
Producer and artistic director Clive Brill said: “I am absolutely delighted to welcome Toby Jones to Frinton Summer Theatre in 2024. We have worked together at the BBC over many years in Radio Drama but we will take this opportunity to chat through his amazingly varied and successful career.
I am sure there is much our audience will want to hear about from The Detectorists, to Marvellous and of course Mr Bates vs The Post Office. It has become something of a tradition to host a household name as a special guest and following the success of Brian Cox appearing last year, we are thrilled to have someone of Toby’s reputation join us this year.
“It all goes to show how proud Frinton should be of the incredible sets, show-stopping performances and fabulous full houses that are a mainstay of Frinton Summer Theatre. It is such a joy to be able to share this with local theatre-lovers, and at a fraction of West End prices.”
