23 Oct Basildon Mayor’s Civic and Charity Dinner raises thousands for good causes
The Mayor of Basildon’s Civic and Charity Dinner raised thousands of pounds for good causes which make a positive difference to the lives of borough residents.
The event, which was hosted at the Magic Mushroom restaurant in Billericay, featured a raffle and auction with prizes including a signed Billericay FC shirt, an iPad donated by Dimension Data and a bottle of House of Commons whiskey signed by the Prime Minister. Approximately £7,000 was raised in total, taking into account ticket sales.
The Mayor of Basildon’s Charity Appeal was launched to bring the community together in aid of charitable organisations. This year the appeal is supporting St Luke’s Hospice and Cancer Research UK as chosen by the current Mayor, Cllr David Dadds. He will be running the London Marathon in April 2019, with further activities being organised for the rest of the municipal year.
St Luke’s Hospice provides specialist care and support to people in the Basildon borough when they need it most. Cancer Research UK funds life-saving research into the causes, prevention and treatment of all cancer types.
