26 Oct Basildon council raises county flag to celebrate Essex Day
Basildon Council is flying the county’s seaxe flag to show its support for Essex Day.
Mayor of Basildon, Cllr David Harrison, raised the flag upon the Basildon Centre at 10.30am today to celebrate the patron saint of Essex, St Cedd.
Essex Day falls annually on the feast day of St Cedd and recognises the values, history and cultural traditions of the county.
Cllr Kerry Smith, chairman of Basildon Council’s housing and community committee, said: “Basildon Council wishes to champion and support our county’s patron saint, St Cedd. Most residents are not aware that October 26 is the feast day of our historic patron saint and has earnt the title of Essex Day. This is why we are flying the seaxe flag upon the Basildon Centre, for St Cedd.”
The seaxe flag will fly over the Basildon Centre until Sunday 29 October.
