07 Feb Basildon Council proposes CCTV investment as part of £700k programme
More than £55,000 has been earmarked for CCTV equipment to improve safety at parks and community facilities as part of Basildon Council’s proposed budget.
A £700,000 investment programme for local communities, to be funded from available reserves, includes the installation of CCTV at Wickford Memorial Park, Nevendon Park and Northlands Park.
An existing security camera will be repositioned in Market Road, Wickford, with a new camera to be installed at the end of Market Lane. Basildon Council will also provide CCTV for Wickford Community Centre.
Cllr Alan Ball, Chairman of Basildon Council’s Regeneration and Environment committee, said: “We are committed to shaping safe communities and protecting our residents from harm. It is important that we listen to our residents and get the basics right, with parks and community facilities contributing to how attractive the borough is. By investing in CCTV we can improve how safe people feel and in turn encourage them to spend more time in the borough and have pride in their communities.”
The proposed budget will be considered at Full Council on Thursday 8 February.
