Reduce, recycle and raise funds for the RAF Southend Air Cadets at London Southend Airport

15 Jun Reduce, recycle and raise funds for the RAF Southend Air Cadets at London Southend Airport

London Southend Airport is encouraging the community to donate unwanted clothing to help raise funds for 1312 (Southend-on-Sea Squadron) Royal Air Force Air Cadets.

If you have any unwanted clothing, bags or shoes in good condition, the squadron will be at their base at the airport taking collections during the morning of 17 June with Bag2School.

All items must be received by the squadron building between 7.30-9.00 am on 17th June. Items should be bagged in black bags or similar and be clean and in good condition.
For details of accepted items please visit https://bag2school.com/what-we-collect

The items will be weighed with all funds donated to the cadets who are fundraising for a minibus and uniform items to proudly represent Southend at local and national events such as Armed Forces’ Day and Remembrance Day.

Glyn Jones, CEO London Southend Airport, “Charities have struggled to raise funds during the pandemic due to the many restrictions, we are pleased to support this fantastic idea by the squadron which supports the environment whilst raising vital funds. Many have used the lockdown to reorganise and clear out their homes, so we hope to have a great response for the charity”.

Bag2School is a leading textile recycler and fundraiser working with schools and charities across the UK. The team collect unwanted textiles for importers and wholesalers in many countries of Eastern and Western Europe, Africa and Asia to benefit the Circular Economy.
As well as raising vital funds, the activity also helps the environment by helping to divert unwanted textiles away from landfill.

The RAF Air Cadets are a registered charity offering adventure for young people within the community, from flying, sports, target shooting and adventure training. Cadets can build on achievements earning BTECs and DoE Awards.

Angela Farmer, 1312 (Southend-on-Sea Squadron) Royal Air Force Air Cadets, “This is a fantastic initiative to help the environment whilst raising funds for the squadron. We hope to put the donations towards the purchase of uniform items and a minibus to transport the cadets to the many activities on offer. Thanks to all who can support us, including London Southend Airport.”
