RSPCA caring for abandoned kittens who were too young to be away from mum

27 Apr RSPCA caring for abandoned kittens who were too young to be away from mum

The RSPCA is caring for four young kittens who were left inside a cardboard box with no ventilation on a day when temperatures had reached 21 degrees.

Thankfully the kittens were found and kept safe and are now being cared for by the RSPCA Central London Branch.

The kittens had been left inside a box in an alleyway opposite the fire station between Carterhatch Lane and Central Avenue, Enfield on Saturday April 13.

The kittens are only thought to be six to seven weeks old and were very scared.

RSPCA Inspector Nicole Smith said “I am appealing for information as to who may have left these kittens or had owned them.

“They were left inside a Nike box and the delivery label had been removed. Thankfully they were found by a member of the public – as there were no ventilation holes in the box – and the temperature that day reached 21 degrees.”

They are now in the safe hands of the RSPCA Central London Branch and they have been called Loretta, Nancy, Marlowe and Bernadette.

She added“I have put up posters and posted letters with nearby houses in the area in case anyone saw someone carrying the box towards the alleyway between 9am and 1.20pm on Saturday 13 April.

She added: “We are grateful to everyone who helped keep these kittens safe.

“It’s really sad to think someone just abandoned them in this way. We understand the financial difficulties some people are experiencing right now, however abandoning your pet is never the answer. There is help and support available and – as we all strive to create a better world for every animal – we would urge people to contact their vets, local rescues and animal welfare charities.

“Anyone who has information is asked to call the RSPCA’s appeals line on 0300 123 8018 quoting incident 01249136.”

This year the RSPCA celebrates its 200th birthday. To mark this special anniversary the animal welfare charity wants to inspire one million people to join their movement to improve animals’ lives. To find out how you can join their million-strong movement for animals visit www.rspca.org.uk/200.
