Nigel Farage has said that people have had enough of illegal migration and no longer believe what government ministers say on the subject.
Speaking on GB News, he said: “Well, another week when the small boats, or should we say the rather larger boats, now as they are, become a major national news story.
“781 crossed the channel yesterday, 1,200 this week, and of course two beach landings, two dinghies that made it all the way to the Kent shingle and it’s thought 10 people who were on those boats are now out at large in Kent on the run…
“People have had enough [of government statements]. They don’t believe a word of it. Even though the numbers are down on last year, they’re still much too high.
“I’ve made these arguments now for five years about the cost, threats to women and children, and indeed, I genuinely believe [in a threat to] national security, especially with an Iranian regime that is putting its operatives into the country via the English Channel.
“Now there are two types of protest. One is the type we’ve seen down in Portsmouth, in Dover, and is happening right now in Basingstoke.
“The other, well, the other is a much more peaceful way. Remember this [referendum] from the little village of Piddington in Oxfordshire last week?
“Well, that was Piddington voting to leave the United Kingdom, and I did say last week I thought it would be the start of much more. Well, the village of Barnham, which is in Suffolk, right up against the Norfolk border, has a population of 600.
“They are about to have an old RAF camp into which will be put 1,250 young men. And GB News was there today, talking to residents.
“Well, Crowborough, where there’s been an old army camp used for cross-channel migrants, they’re now considering their own independence referendum.
“And Suffolk today, Suffolk County Council have talked about having a county-wide referendum that’ll be held officially by the council. So, what’s going to happen in Barnham?”
