Levi Roots’ inspirational speech at Maldon’s Business Showcase

17 May Levi Roots’ inspirational speech at Maldon’s Business Showcase

Dragons’ Den star and sauce entrepreneur Levi Roots came to the Maldon district this week to share his wealth of business knowledge and talk about the importance of branding to businesses in the area.

The Reggae Reggae sauce inventor was invited to speak at Maldon District Council’s Business Showcase, held at the Three Rivers Golf and Country Club in Cold Norton, where 44 different businesses from across the district gathered to raise their profile.

He said: “It’s been fantastic. I’ve had a great day. I always say you are just as good as the people that you are with and I’ve had an absolutely brilliant time.”

The British-Jamaican entrepreneur, who is also an accomplished musician, was there as part of the council’s launch of a “sense of place” project, aiming to strengthen the Maldon district’s identity.

“I’ve always said that I’m still learning myself really,” he said.

“It always surprises me when people tell me I inspire them. I thought I was the most rubbish person on Dragon’s Den but I do think that people liked me because I was totally honest.

“I was there saying ‘Yes, I might be a fool with a guitar, but I’ve got a really good sauce and I can promote this’ and I do think that people need to hear that philosophy, that if Levi Roots can do it, then anyone can do it.

“If that’s a story I can tell and inspire a few people, then I’m really pleased with that.”

Maldon district Councillor Penny Channer, member of the Bradwell Legacy Partnership, set up to alleviate the economic fallout of Bradwell’s decommissioning, said: “What I’ve noticed is there has been a lot of energy, enthusiasm and exchanges of ideas.
