A ROYAL PET-ITION: MANYPETS CALLS FOR DOGS TO ROAM FREE OVER CORONATION WEEKEND

25 Apr A ROYAL PET-ITION: MANYPETS CALLS FOR DOGS TO ROAM FREE OVER CORONATION WEEKEND

With the King’s Coronation just around the corner, ManyPets is calling for King Charles Spaniels and all fellow furry subjects to be free to roam anywhere they please over the long weekend. It comes as new research has revealed a whopping 88% of UK pet parents consider their pet to be a royal member of their family, with 67% even holding their pet in higher esteem than their partner, family and friends.

Legend tells that hundreds of years ago, King Charles II decreed his favourite pups – King Charles Spaniels – were free to wander anywhere in the land, from the local pub to the Houses of Parliament. Although the rule is no longer an act of Parliament, it has never been repealed.

Ahead of King Charles III’s Coronation, ManyPets is calling on Brits via a petition on Change.org to reinstate the law in question between 6th – 8th May. To raise awareness for the campaign, King Charles Cavalier Spaniels gathered outside the Houses of Parliament and Westminster Abbey this week, to fight for their right to roam. In the exact location that King Charles III will be crowned on Saturday 6th May.

The petition follows new research from the award-winning pet insurance brand, which reveals that 85% wish they could take their dog with them everywhere, with pubs (53%), hotels (52%) and supermarkets (37%) topping the list.

According to the poll of 2,000 UK dog owners 45% say they have been unexpectedly turned away from somewhere they have taken their dog, and over two thirds (73%) of dog parents now actively avoid places they would like to go because they cannot take them.

British brands such as Greene King pubs, who allow dogs on their premises*, have also joined ManyPets’ commitment by backing the petition and pledging their ongoing alliance with pets and their parents.

Oke Eleazu, UK CEO of ManyPets, says, “Legend has it that King Charles II decreed that his beloved dogs must be allowed anywhere in the land, and what better time to reinstate this law than the year we crown King Charles III?”

“We are a nation of dog lovers and our research shows if we had it our way, we would take our dogs out with us no matter where we go. So ahead of the celebrations, we want our dogs to be a part of the bank holiday weekend as much as anyone else, and are proud to kick-start our royal pet-ition, backed by our loyal partners of dog lovers, to campaign for the rights of our furry friends. Whether you’re a pub, shop or cafe, it’s time to open your doors to all on four paws. Let the nation’s dogs roam as they deserve to over the coronation weekend!”

The research also found Brits admit to giving their pet the royal treatment by letting them sit on human furniture (75%), letting them sleep on their bed (73%) and spoiling them with toys (66%).
