The four-legged visitors called into the home recently, with the youngest member of the group, Clyde, capturing everyone’s hearts at just 10 weeks old. Before meeting residents across the home, the adorable puppy made a stop in the administration office, where staff joked that he was helping with paperwork and answering the telephone – with only a few puppy mishaps along the way.

The dogs then visited each community within the home, where residents welcomed them with pats, hugs, cuddles and plenty of conversation. The visit created a warm and uplifting atmosphere, with residents and colleagues alike describing the afternoon as calming, relaxing and full of happiness.

The session also highlighted the many wellbeing benefits that animal visits can bring to older people, including reducing stress and anxiety, improving mood, promoting emotional wellbeing and encouraging social interaction.
Maxine Gower, Senior Wellbeing Coordinator at Admirals Reach Care Home, said:
“It was wonderful to see the smiles on our residents’ faces as they spent time with the Pomeranians. Clyde certainly stole a lot of hearts, both in the office and around the home. The visit brought so much joy and laughter, while also creating a real sense of calmness. Animal visits like these have such a positive impact on emotional wellbeing and social engagement, and we’re always delighted to welcome them into our home.”
The visit was organised by the home’s wellbeing team, including Senior Wellbeing Coordinator Maxine Gower and Wellbeing Coordinators Tina Fountain, Chris Jackson, Liz Kingshott and Alex Tattersall, who regularly arrange meaningful activities that support residents’ physical, emotional and social wellbeing.
