World No 1 Jannik Sinner today lived up to his star billing at the Giorgio Armani Tennis Classic, securing a decisive victory against British No. 1 Cameron Norrie as day two action got underway at the Hurlingham Club.
Sinner defeated Norrie in straight sets 6-3, 6-3 in the day’s highly anticipated opening encounter. Playing amidst record-breaking British heat, the Italian superstar showcased the clinical form that has cemented his status as the world’s top ranked player ahead of Wimbledon. Despite a spirited performance from Norrie – who was backed by a passionate home crowd – Sinner’s flawless baseline execution secured the win in front of a packed grandstand.
The match offered a compelling tactical battle on the pristine Hurlingham lawns, serving as a highly anticipated rematch of their clash at the Madrid Masters earlier this season. The encounter allowed both players to make invaluable adjustments under the intense London summer heat, much to the delight of a sophisticated crowd.
Speaking on his win, Sinner said: “It’s great to play at this beautiful club. These exhibition matches are good because they allow us to try out a couple of things, and hopefully, we’ll be in the best possible shape for next week at Wimbledon. I’ve been on grass for nearly a week now and every day counts, so it’s very important to get used to the conditions. We still have some important practice sessions coming up, but hopefully, we’ll be as ready as we can be.”
Attention now turns to the remainder of the prestigious five-day tournament, featuring a baseline battle between Casper Ruud and Ben Shelton on Thursday, alongside Cameron Norrie’s return to the lawns to face rising star Jiri Lechecka. This Friday, World No. 12 Tommy Paul will bring his elite grass court game to the Hurlingham club, before Grand Slam finalist Karen Khachanov headlines a final day of elite singles and legendary doubles this weekend.
Tournament Director, Nikhil Waugh said: “It is wonderful to return to the Hurlingham Club for the 32nd edition of the Giorgio Armani Tennis Classic. This event has always been a unique celebration of sport, style, and summer in London, and this year’s schedule truly highlights that tradition. We’re excited to showcase a spectacular mix of the world’s top talent alongside our iconic Legends. This year’s experience promises to be our most immersive and spectacular yet as we kick off a wonderful week of grass-court tennis.”
Attendees will have exclusive access to the pristine grounds of The Hurlingham Club, two ATP singles matches featuring top ranked players, as well as legends doubles match. Guests will also be treated to complimentary Whispering Angel rosé and other wines, cocktails, beers, and soft drinks from the comfort of a reserved grandstand seat.
