Work has begun on ten new homes in Jaywick Sands.
Tendring District Council (TDC) is building the new houses on land off Lotus Way to kick-start improvements in the quality of housing in the area.
The houses will be made up of five council homes and five homes for sale with priority for all 10 being given to local residents.
Work has already started work on an electrical substation needed to supply the homes and further planned development in Jaywick Sands.
Last week (Friday, March 15) council contractors Gipping Construction began work on the pilings for the homes, which will be of a modular design.
Paul Honeywood, TDC Cabinet Member with special responsibility for Jaywick Sands, said he was pleased to see spades in the ground on the project.
