Wizz Air, one of Europe’s fastest growing airlines and the leading low-cost carrier in Central and Eastern Europe today celebrates the start of operations at Southend Airport.
Customers looking for affordable air travel from the south east coast of England can fly to four destinations from London’s newest airport on Wizz Air’s ultra-efficient fleet of airbus aircraft, with the lowest CO2 emissions of any European airline.
Passengers will be able to experience the delights of Vilnius in Lithuania, and Bucharest, Sibiu and Iași in Romania. Fares start at £9.99* and can be booked via the Wizz Air app or at wizzair.com.
To celebrate the launch of Wizz Air’s services at Southend Airport, roller skating troupe Rolla City will be WIZZing around the terminal building handing out treats to passengers. There is also the chance to win a Wizz Air voucher worth €100 by following @LondonSouthendAirport on social media.
The growth of Wizz Air’s UK network at Southend Airport will see the creation of over 100** indirect jobs in the area and means that Wizz Air operates from three London airports; Luton, Gatwick and now Southend. Wizz Air has added 27 new routes to its UK network in 2019 alone, meaning that the airline now offers low fares on 103 routes, to 27 countries from 12 UK airports, representing 23% growth year on year.
The airline operates one of the youngest fleets in Europe which currently consists of 120 aircraft, with the average age of 4.7 years. As a result, Wizz Air is the greenest airline in Europe***, reporting only 56.8 grams CO2 emissions per passenger per kilometre in October 2019.
