Wildlife art mural at Braintree Village to encourage nature challenge sign ups

19 May Wildlife art mural at Braintree Village to encourage nature challenge sign ups

In collaboration with Braintree Village, Essex Wildlife Trust has commissioned an art mural by Andy Judd to promote the upcoming nature challenge, 30 Days Wild. The mural, which represents a pair of owl wings, was created from recycled fence panels and rope, advocating the use of upcycled materials.

The public are invited to visit the recently completed mural and use the interactive element to take photos in front of it.

The mural is part of Essex Wildlife Trust’s campaign to encourage the public to sign up to the biggest nature challenge of the year, 30 Days Wild. The challenge is based on the idea that it takes one month to create a habit.

To take part, the public is asked to do one ‘Random Act of Wildness’ each day. Examples include going for a walk, listening to birds, building a bug hotel or watching a wildlife webcam.

The free challenge is suitable for individuals, families, schools, care homes and businesses. By signing up, you will receive a free activity pack including a wild bee poster, seeds, and materials to inspire you throughout the month.

Last year over 500,000 people took part in the challenge including 114,245 households, 11,740 schools, 898 care homes and 1,384 businesses. Previous participants in 30 Days Wild have reported feeling healthier, happier and more connected with nature.

The Wildlife Trusts provide free resources for everyone who signs up. Just register your interest here wildlifetrusts.org/30dayswild. There is also a 30 Days Wild session planner specially designed for teachers to use in class.

Andy Judd, mural artist, says:
“I’m thrilled to be working with Essex Wildlife Trust to create this mural made from recycled and natural materials. As a creative who predominantly uses offscreen materials in their design work, I knew this collaboration would be a unique and playful project”.

Bailey Tait, Campaigns and Advocacy Manger, says:
“We hope that our owl mural inspires the public to get involved with 30 Days Wild. We want people of all ages to connect with nature every single day in June. Over the years, we have seen so many fantastic examples of individuals, families and organisations taking part and we look forward to seeing how the public choose to take part this year.”
