WICKFORD INDEPENDENTS LEAVE THE BASILDON BOROUGH ALLIANCE

26 Jul WICKFORD INDEPENDENTS LEAVE THE BASILDON BOROUGH ALLIANCE

After the elections in May we held a meeting with our members and it was decided to leave the Basildon Borough Alliance.

Wickford has seen some real benefits from being part of that Alliance for a couple of years – including, bringing about the 26 acres extension to the Wickford Memorial Park in the form of Beauchamps Field, the new access road into the Wick Country Park, the additional car park at the Runwell Road entrance to the Memorial Park, arranging for Wickford High Street to be closed on a Saturday for the market, providing planters etc in the High Street, and the opening of the Nevendon Centre.

But now the decision has been made to leave the Alliance.

After a lot of research and recommendations, it was decided to become members of the national Independent Network as it affords better opportunities to be able to represent the electorate as true Independents and be free of any political party, pressure group or whip. We will also be able to work with other Independent groups across the County.

The Independent Network is lead nationally by Marianne Overton MBE, who is the elected Leader of the Independent Group of councillors on the Local Government Association.

We are united by a common goal and will carrying on being focused on improving local services in all areas of concern to the community, and to promote social harmony, equality, diversity and sound environmental stewardship.
