14 Feb What Poker tournaments are available worldwide?
You may enjoy playing poker just for fun, but if you’re feeling that little bit more competitive, why not see if you can become involved in the variety of tournaments available worldwide?
If you’re not interested in these major tournaments, you could find a smaller tournament at a casino online to suit you! There are so many to choose from, no matter where you live, so it’s time to discover what’s out there.
World Series of Poker (WSOP)
It would be wrong to not begin with the biggest annual poker event. The first tournament began during the 70s and has only grown from there, not only in its tournament numbers, but the number of players taking part.
When the tournament first began, it was invitation only, but this is now a thing of the past. It was owned by Benny Binion in the Horseshoe Casino, but now it’s sponsored by Caesars Entertainment, held at the Rio Hotel and Casino.
During its humble beginnings, only seven invited players were at the tournament – now there are thousands of entrants, who can potentially take away millions of dollars!
Aussie Millions
If you’re down under, this tournament is one of the highest profile events that happen outside of the US. And in terms of its prize pool, it’s the largest Poker tournament in the Southern Hemisphere.
Taking place at the beautiful Crown Casino in Melbourne, if you fancy taking part in the variety of competitions on offer, be aware that high stakes could be involved!
World Poker Tour
If you want a tour that is held in different countries worldwide, including Holland and Canada, this is the perfect one for you, so hopefully you’ll find a tour destination that suits you.
This tour usually involves 15-20 tournaments, and that’s just at the main event! There are other events to choose from – if you’re interested, have a look into the other options available.
European Poker Tour
Instead of a worldwide tournament, this tour covers major European cities.
It was founded in 2004 and the main tournament is probably one of the lower stake events, but there are games with higher stakes too – if you’re a high roller!
Online tournaments
It’s easy to talk about these tournaments, but you may not actually be able to travel to one, or be a high roller, so you cannot afford to play.
Things become a lot easier digitally, as there could be an online Poker tour available, so you can play from the comfort of your home.
These online tournaments put players together digitally to receive their playing hands – this is done by a predetermined pool.
The competition begins after the buy-in fee has been paid to qualify, but after this, you will be given a certain amount of chips to see who will leave with the grand prize!

There are more elements to all Poker tournaments and you can even play anywhere you like, without leaving your house. So, if you see one that interests you, let the competition begin!
