08 Apr Wendy’s announces Essex expansion plans
Calling all Wendy’s® fans! As part of the brand’s ongoing expansion plans in the country, the iconic American hamburger chain will be serving up its signature square burgers across several new locations in the UK this year, with more well on their way.
Where will Wendy’s be heading next?
Wendy’s will continue its expansion in the North with a fresh spot in Middlesbrough in the coming months. Liverpool will also welcome its first brick and mortar restaurant later this year, following the success of the delivery kitchen which opened in 2023 at Gravity Max. Wendy’s new Liverpool restaurant will be located on one of the main routes connecting Liverpool and Manchester, perfect for travelers and commuters alike. Delivery will be available for those looking for a meal on the go.
Brand fans in Sheffield can rejoice, with the arrival of a second Wendy’s restaurant on Arena Road, joining the popular high street location which has been serving residents since 2022. Someone order me a Wendy’s signature Baconator® and famous Frosty® dessert now, please?
In London, the brand is also heading North, setting sights on Zone 3. Wendy’s newest Franchisee, GH Burgers, will be opening its first restaurant in Wood Green later this year, serving residents fresh, high-quality ingredients that Wendy’s is known and loved for. Brand fans in Essex will also be able to enjoy Wendy’s by the sea, setting roots in Southend-on Sea. After celebrating a successful year in Northern Gateway Leisure park, Wendy’s will be opening its second restaurant in Colchester, bang on the high street as a result of local residents demanding more access to Wendy’s in the city. This also follows a successful launch in Chelmsford in March.
Wendy’s also added another location in Hull last month, joining the Kingswood Retail Park drive-thru which opened its doors in December 2023, as well as the hotly anticipated Cambridge restaurant which will be welcoming fans for the first time later this year.
Wendy’s is also pleased to confirm another franchisee restaurant opening in Newcastle later this year.
These new restaurants, which have already started recruitment, will collectively create more than 400 jobs, each with competitive salaries and benefits.
Wendy’s landed back on UK shores in 2021, offering new, fresh, differentiated menu offerings for Brits looking to enjoy fast food done right. Since returning to the UK, Wendy’s has been delighting fans with a commitment to using high-quality, locally sourced ingredients across more than 30 locations and growing. The new Wendy’s restaurants in 2024 will follow recent openings in Derby, Guildford, Chelmsford and Bilton, where fans were spotted queuing around the block to try Wendy’s signature burgers for the first time!

What will be on the menu?
Wendy’s focus has been on quality since day one. In fact, their fresh beef patties are square because they do not cut corners. All menu items are made to order and customisable, and ingredients are locally sourced wherever possible. Wendy’s burgers are made with fresh British beef and they use all chicken fillets for our chicken products. Wendy’s delicious salads are also prepared fresh daily, and sandwiches are served hot off the grill.
At the new restaurants, Wendy’s fans can find the same signature items they know and love from the United States including the Baconator®, Dave’s Double™, the Spicy Chicken Sandwich, and of course, the classic Frosty® dessert (in chocolate AND vanilla). Alongside this, there is an exclusive range of items tailored to Brits, such as the Avocado Chicken Club, Curry Bean Burger, and chicken nuggets made from whole chicken breast fillet.
Wendy’s also offers a craveable breakfast menu giving customers one less reason to hit snooze in the morning. Early door delights include the Breakfast Baconator, filled Croissant Sandwiches and the Classic Egg & Cheese Sandwiches with optional bacon or sausage, plus a range of high-quality coffee options including Flat Whites, Cappuccinos and Lattes.
