Walking back to happiness – Discovering Colchester’s Music Scene

24 Apr Walking back to happiness – Discovering Colchester’s Music Scene

Three of Colchester’s most knowledgeable music fanatics will be leading a two-hour musical mystery tour around the town on 7 May at 2pm. ‘Colchester’s Music Scene’ is the first musical trip around Colchester, and will be part of Jane’s Walk, an annual world-wide, citizen-led exploration of the urban environment.

Leading the tour will be Carl Allen, Richard ‘Benny’ Benedetti and Ben Howard. Carl is a former Town Planner, music historian and author of the book ‘London Gig Venues’, and knows Colchester’s music venues inside out. Richard is a well-known face around the town, a gig promoter, former record shop owner and is currently the singer in the band The Occupants. Ben Howard is the town’s busiest DJ, the inspiration behind ‘Keep Colchester Cool’ and Operations Manager at Three Wise Monkeys. Together they have an encyclopaedic knowledge of the town’s music scene and its rich musical heritage.

The ‘Colchester Music Scene’ Jane’s Walk will start from outside The George Hotel on the town’s High Street at 2pm, and the walk will last two-hours. The walk is free of charge and will end at 4pm at Three Wise Monkeys. More information on this walk and the others taking place around Colchester please visit: https://walkcolchester.wordpress.com/

Jane’s Walk is now in its eighth year in Colchester, and the town was the first UK location to host the walks, with cities including Birmingham, Leeds and Liverpool, now joining in. The walks celebrate Jane Jacobs (1916 – 2006), an urban activist, journalist and writer.
