04 Apr Trump’s ‘tawdry’ court case could be the tip of an iceberg, says his former adviser John Bolton
DONALD Trump’s former national security adviser said his “tawdry” court case in New York has tarnished the dignity of the office of president.
John Bolton told GB News: “As hard as it may be to believe, Trump has turned this prospective indictment into a political plus for himself.
“This is simply the indictment stage. There still has to be a trial. That could be a year off, but it is a measure of Trump’s continuing support that – unfortunately in my view – a lot of Republicans have rallied round.”
“It’s possible for two things to be true simultaneously, thing one that the prosecutor is politically biased and thing two that Donald Trump is guilty of the charge.”
During an interview with Patrick Christys, he said: “He is under numerous criminal investigations, one for attempted vote-stealing in Georgia to federal investigations for the classified documents matter and for the January 6 riot.
“So these four criminal investigations, if you ask most observers to rank them one to four as to how strong they are, this case in New York would have ranked about six or seven.
“It’s a tawdry, sleazy case. It hardly sounds like something worthy of the dignity of a president of the United States, but if he’s guilty of it and it is under New York law it could be a felony.
“Nonetheless, that’s something that he’ll have to defend against in court. He’s claiming discrimination persecution malicious prosecution, a whole range of things, he’ll have a chance to make those arguments in court.”
Mr Bolton added: “One of the reasons Republicans are so frustrated and so many are attacking the District Attorney is that Donald Trump is the Democratic Party’s best asset.
“If he were to get the Republican nomination, it would guarantee that anybody that they nominated would win and not only win the presidency, but score significant gains in the Senate and the House.
“So this for those who want a responsible, conservative Republican nominee, this indictment is not good news.”
