Head to The Boardwalk for a wide selection of family friendly restaurants to suit everyone such as Gourmet Burger Kitchen, Wagamama and ASK. With plenty of offers such as ‘Kids Eat Free’ at Bella Italia and Giraffe; you can relax and eat whilst enjoying the views of Alexandra Lake.

3. Have a Super Hero summer
Children can enjoy some heroic fun at intu Lakeside on 14 August when Catboy, Owlette and Gekko from Entertainment One’s (eOne) PJ Masks take over the centre for the day. Fans will be able to meet their favourite character and take part a specially created ‘Hero Training Academy’ where they will learn super hero moves and also have a photo taken with Catboy, Owlette and Gekko who will be soaring into Essex to make special appearances at the free, fun-packed event.
They can also join in more super hero summer fun at Hamleys intu Lakeside which will be hosting free themed parties, offering the chance to meet Hamley the bear, enter super competitions and lots more every Wednesday – Sunday (12pm – 4pm).
4. A taste of the seaside
Southend’s legendary ice cream parlour, Rossi Ice Cream opened this summer with a choice of its traditional and well loved flavours to choose from. Rossi is located next to artisan baked donut brand, Dum Dum Donut’s an independent British company based in Chelmsford, Essex which offers high quality, natural artisan doughnuts that are uniquely baked fresh every day.
5. Saturday Storytime
Waterstones intu Lakeside will be hosting a series of fun filled events and book readings three times a week throughout August. Children will be able to enjoy activities such as cake decorating, making your own slime and treasure hunts; as well as attend story times featuring readings of their favourite books. 6. Join the Beach party
Visit Lush intu Lakeside for an in store Beach Party on 4 & 5 August. Join in their party games and beach themed activies, learn more about their new Turtle jelly bomb and how you can tackle plastic pollution in our oceans. Whilst in store you can try painting with their new bubble brushes or relax at one of their pamper stations, available throughout the summer.
7. Nintendo Switch
Nintendo will be live at intu Lakeside from, 21 to 26 August where you will be able to test out the new Nintendo Switch with various games, as well as enter a competition to win one to take home.
8. Slime Time at WHSmith
Every Saturday throughout the summer (1pm – 2pm), WHSmith intu Lakeside will be hosting a Slime Masterclass demo to teach you how to make your very own slime.
9. Have fun getting around
Whether your little one is obsessed with cars, loves trains or wants to be out on the lake; there are plenty of options to entertain them during your visit. Hire a Fun Buggy to speed around the centre and receive a free Playmobil toy, grab a ticket and take a ride on the Essex Express or take to the water and hire your very own Swan pedalo.
10. Back to School
Sadly the summer doesn’t last forever but intu Lakeside has you covered for the upcoming new school year. Head to Marks & Spencer for new uniform, Clarks for shiny new shoes and Smiggle for the coolest stationary.
