09 Nov ‘Tommies’ appearing across Basildon borough ahead of Remembrance Sunday
World War One ‘Tommies’ are appearing in towns across the borough ahead of Remembrance Sunday.
Mayor of Basildon, Cllr David Dadds, has organised the funding of the art installations marking the centenary of the end of the First World War in Basildon, Billericay, Wickford, Laindon and Pitsea.
The council has also funded the installation of a large poppy covering the O of the iconic Basildon sign as a further tribute to those who lost their lives in the Great War.
Cllr Dadds will lead the borough’s tributes to Britain’s war dead in a Remembrance Sunday service at St Martin’s Church, Basildon.
