17 Sep Tilbury firm supports local community development trust, One Community
EMR’s Tilbury sites, based in East Tilbury and on Tilbury Docks, have joined forces to support the local community development trust, One Community.
Created by the community, voluntary groups and residents of Tilbury and Chadwell, the One Community Development Trust is an initiative which aims to encourage local people to work together to achieve the best for themselves and their community. The trust offer a number of services that help remove barriers to employment, including a weekly work club which supports job hunting and interview preparation to assist individuals find employment as well as improving physical and mental wellbeing.
The £8,000 donation given by EMR’s East Tilbury and Tilbury Docks sites will allow eight young people between the ages of 18-25 to access One Community’s Volunteer Investment Programme (VIP), an initiative which helps those struggling to find employment access valuable voluntary experience; whilst also giving them support with CV writing and job applications. Young people will also receive a tour of EMR’s Tilbury sites to give them an insight into the metal recycling industry and the diverse roles available.
Simon Masters, Area General Manager of EMR’s Tilbury sites commented: “One Community plays a vital role in the local area, offering a lifeline to those who need a little extra support. Now more than ever young people are struggling to find employment, so the Volunteer Investment Programme will give them that little extra experience they need and really help them craft their CV’s.
“I cant wait to see that the positive impact that our partnership will have in the local community!”
Yewande Kannike, Chief Executive at One Community added: “Supporting young people to get relevant work experience provides a pathway into paid employment and is critical to their future stability. With the help of EMR we will be able to provide these opportunities to young people in our local area.”
The donation was given as part of EMR’s Young Futures Reimagined, an initiative that aims to help young people up and down the country to build brighter futures through local charity partnerships.
