16 Mar TikTok government ban: Should this be applied to all workplaces?
With the Government expected to announce the ban of TikTok on government phones, Adam Butler, workplace solutions expert and CEO at Officeology has shared why he believes TikTok should be removed from all work devices:
“The announcement that the Government will be banning TikTok from work phones is something I believe all workplaces should take onboard.
There has been much speculation around user data from the platform being easily accessed and shared, which poses threats to data and security breaches.
Although TikTok strongly denies this, it is an area that we do not fully understand and the implications could be detrimental to a business.
Business owners have a responsibility to ensure data protection and security, and if there is any chance of breaches occurring, the business should take action and impose restrictions to anything that has potential to breach data and security.
It’s not just your business information at risk, it could potentially enable access to your customers data, and as a company, you have a duty of care to protect the privacy and data of your customers.
Recent analysis has also shown that TikTok collects data from the device, including other apps that have been downloaded on the work device, the user’s Wifi and sim card. This poses extra risk to business information being easily accessible without your business even knowing.”
