THURROCK MP PAYS TRIBUTE TO LIVE ORGAN DONOR PATRICIA CARROLL

01 Mar THURROCK MP PAYS TRIBUTE TO LIVE ORGAN DONOR PATRICIA CARROLL

Thurrock MP Jackie Doyle-Price has praised a live organ donor who has changed the life of a fellow local.

Local resident Patricia Carroll has transformed the life of Wickford man Joe Carmona after becoming a live kidney donor just before Christmas.

Patricia has become an active campaigner in support of organ donation since she tragically lost her daughter Natalie who was in need of a kidney and pancreas.

Last year, Patricia joined with Thurrock Council Public Health department and local volunteers on the streets in Grays to encourage people to sign up as organ donors. Following that she took the decision to be a live donor and was found to be a match with Joe.

Jackie met with Patricia, Joe and Joe’s mother Linda to hear about their experience.

Jackie said, “Meeting Patricia and Joe was truly inspiring. It takes great courage to do what Patricia has done. It is truly amazing. Joe was dialysing four times a week before his transplant. Joe’s life and that of his family has been liberated by Patricia’s selfless act.

Equally Joe has borne his condition with great fortitude and courage. It was incredibly moving to meet them. Even more impressively, both Joe and Patricia are intending to compete in the British Transplant Games next year. To be so positive in the face of adversity is an inspiration to us all.”
