27 Jan Thurrock Join Essex Police Led Heritage Watch
Local champions for Thurrock’s heritage industry have joined forces to launch a new police initiative for the town aimed at protecting the past.
The launch of Heritage Watch in Thurrock took place at the Grays Fire Station Museum in Grays on Thursday 19 January. Mayor Cathy Kent joined attendees from Essex Police, Thurrock Council, Neighbourhood Watch and Essex County Fire and Rescue, who had the opportunity to learn more about the site with a guided tour.
Heritage Watch, an Essex Police led partnership, will work with agencies including Essex County Council, Historic England, English Heritage, the Police and Crime Commissioner’s Office and the National Trust to protect local heritage sites, and is looking for history enthusiasts to join.
The Watch group will look to exchange information and put in practice crime prevention advice in order to prevent heritage crime. This can range from the theft of historical artefacts to unauthorised building work on listed buildings
