The Top 5 Places for Skiing and Snowboarding in Essex

22 Dec The Top 5 Places for Skiing and Snowboarding in Essex

Essex is a county in east England that borders Suffolk and Cambridgeshire and the North Sea. It is a region full of history and amazing sights to see, including Colchester, which is England’s oldest town, the worlds longest pier where Jamie Oliver films his Friday Night Feast show and it has a few fantastically beautiful beaches like Frinton on sea, Shoebury East Beach and Brightlingsea.

At the same time, it is also renowned for its many skiing and snowboarding resorts and centers. We will be listing a few of the best ones and hopefully save you some time on your journey so you can make sure to enjoy all the beautiful sights of Essex and have more time to partake in the sport. Fancy betting on Alpine Skiing? If that’s your sort of thing, you can do that too, preferably by tuning in to watch one of the competitions live during peak season.

  • 1. Brentwood Park Ski & Snowboard Centre

The Brentwood Park Ski & Snowboard center is a unique and family-oriented venue. They are open all year round, incorporating all sorts of other exciting activities such as go karting and golfing, despite being primarily a skiing and snowboarding park.

Every Saturday, they host special children-only mornings from 10 to 12, spicing it up with games and obstacles. Their instructors are extremely qualified as they are hand picked because of their reputation with kids.

This attraction is also one of the cheapest on our list, with adult tickets costing only £18 and kids tickets going for £16.

  • 2. Suffolk Ski Centre

Suffolk Ski Center is a very versatile activity park, organizing skiing and snowboarding parties and also offering a possibility of renting ski toboggans and using them on special courses. They also offer ringos which are similar to toboggans but are inflatable rings you sit on instead of straight planks.

They also offer possibilities of training young kids on their Saturday workshops so they can build confidence and experience around these sports, the regular courses otherwise only allow kids aged 7 and up.

The price of general admission is very affordable ranging from £8.5 for toboggans, £12.5 for ringos, £2 for golf and skiing and snowboarding for only £11.

  • 3. The Snow Centre

The Snow Centre is one of the newer snow destinations on this list and boasts real snow all year round with a 160m main slope and the longest indoor slope in the UK. This makes it the perfect choice for a birthday celebration or some sort of group party. To top it off, they have a delicious buffet.

At the centre, you can find all sorts of skiing and snowboarding lessons for both adults and children. It also offers lift passes and sledging and freestyling sessions. They even offer a 2 day course for children to help them better their skills and go through different levels of training.

  • 4. Sandown Ski Centre

Sandown Ski Centre is a very popular skiing park and they require you to book your kids’ session in advance as they arrange and prepare for them. On Saturday, they have something called The Junior Club catered to children who have little to no experience with the sport.

Their slopes are also closed to the general public during this session, ensuring that the kids have ample time and attention to learn skiing at different difficulty levels and master every course.

  • 5. Gosling Sports, Ski and Board Park

Gosling Sports ski and board park is different from the other centers on this list, as it not only offers two slopes for recreational winter sports, but also has pools and a spa resort. For smaller kids or the ones that aren’t interested in any of the aforementioned activities, they run a ‘Jungle Manio’ soft play area, which is action-packed with more than 65 play features.

This is a perfect way to not only have fun but also to look after your health. There’s also a golf center and a running track as well as a velodrome. Taking all these options into account it is safe to say there’s no lack of possibilities here, and it certainly has something for everyone.

Essex is the winter wonderland paradise you’ve been craving for.
