THE Shadow Minister for Business and Consumers says the Government is failing to revitalise the steel industry.

08 Jun THE Shadow Minister for Business and Consumers says the Government is failing to revitalise the steel industry.

Seema Malhorta also told GB News the skyrocketing prices consumers were facing for energy was unacceptable and that Labour had plans to tackle the problem.

She said: “There is a clear move across the world to make sure that we have clean green energy, and we have to invest in that alongside industry to make that a reality for our households and for our businesses. And this would put to bed the kind of skyrocketing rocketing energy prices that we have seen.

“I don’t want to see any of my constituents go through what they’ve been through over the last couple of years because of the government’s lack of failure to invest. But we’ve also seen the oil and gas companies do incredibly well through this time. And what we know however, is that this is an industry that is already in decline.

She added: “The world is moving to cleaner energy sources. And if we don’t invest now, and we don’t make that transition, then this is an industry that’s going to see an end in due course. But this isn’t a change overnight. It’s going to happen over the course of the next few decades. You’re going to see oil and gas still be a part of how we make this transition. And that’s what’s important. In that time we do need a plan for how we transition those jobs to where the energy is going to come from in the future.”
