01 May The Royals Shopping Centre to host first ever Sci-Fi Southend event
Heroes and villains from the world of sci-fi and comics are poised to descend on Southend-on-Sea this summer, when the Royals Shopping Centre hosts its first ever cosplay extravaganza on Saturday 15 June (9am – 6pm).
Sci-Fi Southend promises to be the must-see event for all comic-book, gaming, movie and TV aficionados.
Announcing the event, The Royals’ Centre Manager Dawn Jeakings said: “Sci-Fi Southend is an exciting, brand-new event that will celebrate the many strands of today’s pop culture. It will bring together characters from movies, games, comics – including Japanese anime and manga – plus television shows and their associated gadgets, toys, clothing and, of course, costumes.”
Sci-Fi Southend will be packed with activities for fans, including special guests from the world of TV and film, comic workshops, video gaming, music, a Kids’ Zone, cosplay competitions and plenty more.
A key element of what makes any sci-fi movie, TV show or comic book adventure truly memorable and exciting is that moment of triumph over adversity. With this is mind, visitors can team up to pit their wits against a series of challenging puzzles in Room Escape Southend’s special interactive and intuitive real-life game.
You and your squad will be locked in a time-travelling spaceship, with just 20 minutes to solve a variety of puzzles in order to escape the grips of an evil creature. Will you make it out in time before you’re trapped in an unknown universe forever…?
Visitors will also have the chance to fully immerse themselves in sci-fi and fantasy pop culture. Not only is attending dressed as your favourite character positively encouraged, but there will also be junior Jedi and mini Marvel superhero training sessions, cosplay shows and demonstrations, trade stands and more!
“Whether you’re a ‘Game of Thrones’ geek, ‘Deadpool’ devotee, crazy for Katniss Everdeen or worship Wonder Woman, this is your chance to chance to hang out with fellow fans and enjoy a completely free event that really is out of this world!” Dawn adds.
