27 Jan The Hangover Fails To Make Top 10
While it can be hard for people to think of their all-time favourite movie, it is usually the case that they can choose between five and 10 and not necessarily in any order because each of these will have their own unique traits, or be classified in different genres.
Sometimes, it could be the case that these are dominated by one particular genre, such as action, while others might have a wide variety.
The fact is though, narrowing down on one can be a difficult task. And then, these can change over time as people see ones that they might not have watched, or new movies are released, which supplant people’s previous favourites.
However, in a recent study by Newcasinosites.me.uk which brought together data from different sources to calculate an overall percentage for each one, The Hangover failed to rank in the top 10 gambling movies of all time, though it could be argued that there was some tough competition.
It could also be argued that the movie was more based around an array of different themes and not just gambling. Afterall, it was a comedy and often, movies about gambling tie in with many other elements.
Where did The Hangover finish?
Out of the top 21 gambling movies in the study The Hangover came in at 13th with 77.50 percent, which by all accounts is respectable considering that it did not have the strongest link to gambling.
In addition to this, you would also have to factor in that the movie which finished in last place, 21, was 26 percentage points lower and this was all about gambling, as well as being based on a true story.
Also of note is that it was only 9.5 percentage points off the first placed gambling movie, that being Casino Royale – the fact that this was a James Bond film and as a result had almost automatic global recognition, also might have had something to do with this.
Interestingly, it could be debated that The Hangover finished joint-12th with Hard Eight, which also had the same percentage, however, the fact that the latter was released 13 years earlier (1996), highlights its staying power which has reflected its long term popularity over the years.
Just 2.5 percentage points separate 13th from 6th place in the study, which is the 1989 movie God of Gamblers with some stiff competition in between. This includes highly acclaimed Ocean’s 11, starring Matt Damon, which also got 80 percent, though which ranked eighth, as well as 1965 classic, The Cincinnati Kid featuring Steve McQueen and Molly’s Game – another that is based on true events.
What affected the overall ranking?
It could be argued that a plot with more of a serious nature might have helped The Hangover to a higher finish in the study, however, this was first and foremost a comedy, which means that it did well to gain 13th place.
Perhaps, more of a well-known cast (at the time) could also have helped to contribute to a higher ranking, however, with Bradley Cooper playing the lead, the other actors no doubt perfectly complemented his character.
