The Countdown has begun to Visit Essex’s BIGGER weekend

06 Sep The Countdown has begun to Visit Essex’s BIGGER weekend

The county’s tourism body, Visit Essex, is giving away free tickets to 50 different attractions around Essex as part of this year’s Essex Bigger Weekend campaign.

Residents from Essex, Kent and East Sussex can enter a ballot to be in with a chance of securing free tickets and vouchers for popular attractions, hotel and restaurants, but the deadline date of 6 September is looming!

There’s so much on offer from free entry to the Upside-Down House at Lakeside and a ride on the Audley End Miniature Railway, to visits to the historic castles at Colchester and Hedingham. Lovers of food and drink can enjoy a free afternoon tea at the Wivenhoe House Hotel, or a wine tasting experience at Saffron Grange vineyard, near Saffron Walden. If you’re looking to get the adrenalin pumping learn the art of kayaking at Clacton Kayaks at Dovercourt Boating Lake. There’s also crazy golf, foot golf and fishing on offer at Waldegraves Holiday Park, Mersea, as well as tickets to Colchester Zoo, Essex Cricket, Southend Pier and Colchester’s Mercury Theatre, and Rollerworld, there really is so much to see and do!

Cllr Mark Durham, Chair, Visit Essex, said: “Essex has a lot to offer from historic buildings and beautiful gardens to great places to stay, eat and drink, as well as fun family attractions.”

“This year’s big weekend really is bigger than before, and we would urge residents to seize the opportunity to browse the Essex Bigger Weekend website and apply for tickets. It’s a great time to try somewhere new, or treat yourself to an evening at the theatre, stroll around a vineyard, or go glamping!”

The Essex BIGGER weekend runs from 18 September until 17 October 2021. To enter the ballot for free tickets, simply visit and apply before the 6 September.

Successful bidders will be notified.
