12 Sep Tendring’s World War Two veterans honoured
For the fifth time, Tendring District Council (TDC) teamed up with the Royal British Legion (RBL) Clacton-on-Sea branch to organise an afternoon tea dance at Clacton’s Princes Theatre for Second World War veterans in our community.
This free event was attended by veterans and guests, who enjoyed a buffet and dancing. Many guests from previous years attended and expressed their delight at the return of the event.
It was an opportunity to meet up with old colleagues, share stories and experiences and for TDC and the RBL to honour our heroes. Veterans were presented with a commemorative mug.
The event began with the theatre being plunged into darkness with the voice of Winston Churchill booming out from the speakers, a two-minute silence was held to remember those who gave their lives for their country.
TDC Chairman Cllr Dan Land attended the event and praised the efforts of the Royal British Royal Legion and TDC staff:
“It was fantastic to see all the veterans and their guests in the theatre having such a good time together”.
He added: “These events a great opportunity for our veterans to know how much we want to celebrate them, and appreciate the sacrifices made during their service.”
