Take a trip through time on a vintage bus with Land of the Fanns and DiscoverME

28 Jun Take a trip through time on a vintage bus with Land of the Fanns and DiscoverME

The Land of the Fanns Landscape Partnership Scheme is delighted to announce that, working with the DiscoverME project, it has arranged a trip through time into historic Havering by vintage bus.

Discover Metropolitan Essex (DiscoverME) is a project uniting 14 of the historic properties across the Land of the Fanns area. The partnership celebrates the heritage and tells the tales of the area’s past so those living and working in Metropolitan Essex can share in its fascinating story, be proud of its history, and access and enjoy its treasures.

The Land of the Fanns has run two previous DiscoverME trips and is now able to offer people the opportunity to join another day of discovery in a special Historic Havering tour. Fans of vintage transport and lovers of history will not want to miss the event which takes place on Saturday 9 July and will see passengers travelling in style in a 1950’s single decker bus.

Beginning at Thames Chase Forest Centre at 10am, the Historic Havering round trip visits five properties to reveal their history and connections to the landscape. Those properties are the Old Chapel built in 1800 as a Protestant Dissenters Chapel, Upminster Windmill dating from 1803 and one of the best remaining English smock mills, Havering Museum housed in the old Romford Brewery and the 15th century Tithe Barn in Upminster. The tour returns to Thames Chase Forest Centre on the site of Broadfields Farm with a grade II listed barn and a Victorian stable block.

Joanne Dungate, the trip co-ordinator for Land of the Fanns said “We’re so pleased to be able finally to run another DiscoverME trip. You might be surprised by the places you can find in your own local area on this tour, and the discoveries you can make when you know where to look. Riding on the vintage bus is the icing on the cake and makes the trip extra special.”

Everyone is welcome to join the trip and tickets can be booked via Eventbrite. Tickets are £10 adults, £5 16 years and under. To book, please go to www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/historic-havering-by-vintage-bus-tickets
