26 Apr SUPPORT FOR LABOUR AMONG GB NEWS VIEWERS HAS SOARED BY 13% IN THE LAST FIVE YEARS
KEIR Starmer has been dealt a major boost in a new poll which shows GB News viewers are switching from the Tories to back Labour.
A survey by JL Partners quizzed current and previous viewers of the channel to gauge their voting intentions.
It revealed 39% of viewers plan to vote Labour at the next General Election, 28% will vote Conservative and 20% will vote Reform.
In a blow to Rishi Sunak, Labour have seen their vote share amongst GB News viewers increase by 13 points in the past five years, while the Tories’ support has fallen back from 42%.
The poll also reveals that one in four (26%) of GB News viewers who voted Conservative in 2019 have now switched to Reform, as Richard Tice’s party continues to build momentum.
The study also indicated Nigel Farage is viewed more positively among GB News viewers than Starmer, Sunak and Boris Johnson. But even the former UKIP leader was in negative territory overall in a poll which illustrates a negative climate for views of politicians of any ilk.
The findings underline the huge task now facing Mr Sunak at the next General Election. The Prime Minister is yet to reveal when he will ask the country to go to the polls.
Earlier this week, GB News presenters Nigel Farage and Jacob Rees Mogg both predicted the PM would hold a General Election this Summer. Based on the intentions of GB News viewers an election would end with a hung parliament and Labour 18 seats short of a majority.
The poll also shows how GB News viewers had more faith in Labour being able to solve the cost of living crisis, fix the NHS, and sort out the UK’s housing issues.
However, the Conservatives remain more trusted on tackling illegal migration, reducing inflation and growing the economy.
The poll also revealed improving the NHS was the viewers’ number one priority, but they also care strongly about stopping illegal migration and small boat crossings.
Three quarters (73%) of GB News viewers think immigration is too high, while 18% say it is about right. And two thirds (66%) of GB News viewers think the government should spend more on the NHS.
Seven in ten (72%) also said the government is not tough enough when it comes to dealing with crime. On the ECHR, 49% of viewers think the U.K. should remain a remember but 36% disagree and 15% are unsure.
