07 Oct Sunday 17th November sees the start of Chelmsford’s Festive Celebrations
Sunday 17th November sees the start of Chelmsford’s Festive Celebrations with a spectacular day of events, activities and entertainment planned to take place throughout the City centre, running from 12.00pm and culminating in the very popular ‘Lights Switch On’ Ceremony at 5.00pm.
This year’s celebrations are being organised by the city’s Business Improvement District – One Chelmsford who recently launched the Chelmsford FOR YOU brand and are also behind the CM1stmas campaign.
The aim this year is to engage more with the local community to ensure it will be a Christmas to remember!
A noticeable change to the usual ‘Christmas Lights’ ceremony this year is that in the place of a “celeb” to push the plunger, the emphasis is to focus on the local community and to invite four residents to perform the honour.
The lucky winners will be chosen from entrants to the newly launched CM1STMAS Awards, where residents from the city and surrounding villages have an opportunity to nominate and vote for inspiring individuals whose enthusiasm, time and effort have been of benefit to the community. Winners of the four categories will be present on the main stage to join in the celebrations and turn on the Christmas Lights.

The event will see the return of the main stage outside Shire Hall, where an exciting programme of entertainment, compered by BBC Essex Radio will lead up to the ‘Lights Switch On’ at 5.00pm, triggering a fantastic firework display visible throughout the city centre.
