SUMMER IS HOTTING UP AT HERITAGE SITE FOLLOWING DONATION FROM SAWBRIDGEWORTH HOUSEBUILDER

09 Aug SUMMER IS HOTTING UP AT HERITAGE SITE FOLLOWING DONATION FROM SAWBRIDGEWORTH HOUSEBUILDER

In support of Organic September 2023 which aims to raise awareness of all organic products available in the UK, local housebuilder David Wilson Homes, who is building at nearby Sawbridge Park, has donated £500 to the Rivers Heritage Site and Orchard who grow a range of apple varieties on their site.

Formed in May 2014, Rivers Heritage Site and Orchard (RHSO) is a volunteer group who work to protect, preserve and maintain the remaining Rivers Nursery site located to the west of Sawbridgeworth. Government research reveals that over 97% of wildflower meadows have been lost since the 1930s, with flower-rich grassland now only covering 1% of the UK’s land area[1], therefore David Wilson’s donation will go towards the purchase of tools for the regular maintenance of the nursery and the planting of extra trees. The volunteers at the volunteer group also exercise a number of tasks such as tree pruning, apple picking and surveying of the local area for wildlife.

Ruth Buckmaster, Chair at Rivers Heritage Site and Orchard commented: “As a not-for-profit organisation, most of our funding comes from the kindness of our community here in Sawbridgeworth, so this donation is greatly received. Now in the midst of summer, this is the perfect time to set out our plans for the autumn months and we look forward to putting the funds towards optimising our work. The wider climate crisis also continues to raise alarm bells, so we want to be able to do all we can in our local area to help – thank you again David Wilson North Thames!”
Marc Woolfe, Director of Sales for David Wilson North Thames, added: “As a sustainable housebuilder, we are committed to protecting the nature at our developments and the surrounding local areas. Rivers Heritage & Orchard Site is an incredibly important environmental organisations in Sawbridgeworth, and their values align closely with our own sustainable ethos at nearby Sawbridge Park. We are proud to do our part by donating funds to their cause and protect the nature of Sawbridgeworth which we know many people in the local area enjoy.”

David Wilson North Thames’ Sawbridge Park development in Sawbridgeworth includes a number of ecological features such as 10 acres of green open space, 1.25 acres of wildflowers meadows, and a selection of bat and bird boxes. Currently available are a selection of two and four-bedroom homes, with prices starting from £402,500.
