30 Jan Studios burst into life for major arts event

Galleries and studios across the Scarborough area will burst into life in February for a big showcase of local artistic talent.

And there’s also the chance for people to join in and discover their own talents, during Scarborough Open Studios 2018.

Over the weekend of 9thto 11thFebruary artists will be opening their studios and galleries to show their work.

Paint, pottery, print, photography, light installations, fabrics and felt are just some of the materials artists will be working in.

There will also be two felt making workshops, where people can have a go at creating their own piece of artwork.

Venues like Woodend, the Old Parcels Office and St Martin’s Church will be taking part alongside individual galleries and studios dotted across town.

The event is being supported by Scarborough arts development agency Create, as part of its role in facilitating and promoting the arts around the area.

Create Director Wendy Holroyd said: “Scarborough is bursting with artistic talent and the Open Studios weekend is a fantastic opportunity to put that talent on show for everyone to enjoy.

“Many people don’t realise just what a creative town Scarborough is and we look forward to welcoming people from the local area and from further afield too, to discover that for themselves.

“It promises to be a wonderful weekend, with a very strong list of open studios, workshops and exhibitions.”
