STUCK IN WIMBLEDON QUEUES? ALDI OFFERS 78P DRINKS AND SWING BALL FUN!

08 Jul STUCK IN WIMBLEDON QUEUES? ALDI OFFERS 78P DRINKS AND SWING BALL FUN!

Fed-up tennis fans stuck in huge queues at Wimbledon swung into action today after being offered a chance to take part in a rival SWING BALL tournament taking place next door to Wimbledon Common.

Spectators have had to queue for up to half a day before getting into Wimbledon this year, with some even missing games they had paid to watch, due to heightened measures in place at entrances.

Supermarket Aldi persuaded fans to take a break from queuing and join the fun at the Aldi Swing Ball Championships – with the added promise of the Wimbledon tradition of Strawberries and Cream for just 89p, compared to £2.50 for the same summer treat inside The All England Lawn Tennis Club.

There was also a chance to sample Aldi’s popular Austin’s and lemonade summer punch for just 78p – compared to Pimm’s on sale inside Wimbledon, where two glasses will set avid tennis fans back a whopping nearly £20.

Tennis fans Tim Gill, 59, who had been queuing with his son Theo Gill, 22, since 8.30am were 8,631 in the queue.

Tim said: ‘The queues were long last year, and we knew it would be busier this year, but we haven’t moved from our spot in almost two hours. It’s unfortunate that fans are having to suffer, we just wanted a fun day out – and a round of swing ball seems like a great alternative.’

Aldi says it is offering great value entertainment in SW19 this year, with up to 90% savings compared to the world famous Wimbledon tournament – with ten swing ball courts available to book online until Friday 7th July, located in beautiful Cannizaro Park, just next to Wimbledon Common.

Court bookings are free, with the last bookings each day at 6:15pm. Each session will be 45 minutes, allowing plenty of time for swing ball action followed by strawberries and cream with a refreshing drink at the Austin’s Bar.

Julie Ashfield, Managing Director of Buying at Aldi UK, added: “By bringing The Aldi Swing Ball Championships to Cannizaro Park in Wimbledon, we hope that everyone can enjoy some of that special Wimbledon magic with a good value Aldi twist.

“Challenge friends to a game, or simply come along to watch, just be sure to bring the energy and we want to hear plenty of cheering and encouragement.”
