28 Mar Stephen Metcalfe MP Welcomes 150 New Police Officers for Essex
Stephen Metcalfe, Member of Parliament for South Basildon and East Thurrock, welcomes today’s announcement from Essex Police of 150 new officers across the county– representing the single most significant local investment in deployable policing in a decade.
150 new visible officers have been confirmed today by Essex Police Chief Constable Stephen Kavanagh and will start to appear on the beat from September this year.
Basildon and Thurrock policing districts will be assigned 20% of these 150 new officers.
Today’s confirmation follows direct lobbying by Mr Metcalfe, other Essex MPs and local Police Crime Commissioner Roger Hirst to Government Ministers for an increase in police funding. The new public money will be directly invested into 150 new police officers, which will include Police Now scheme graduates, domestic abuse specialists, violent crime specialists and a new officer dedicated to tackling online crime. But, most importantly, additional officers will be viable on our streets.
Stephen said: “I am very pleased in Essex Police’s determination in tackling the serious challenges of crime and in helping keep our communities safe! This boost to frontline police numbers represents the single largest investment in our local police for over a decade. The scale, variety and specialist training of the new officers will make a real visible difference for Basildon and Thurrock policing districts.”
