Stephen Metcalfe MP visits Lincewood School

07 Feb Stephen Metcalfe MP visits Lincewood School

Stephen Metcalfe, MP for South Basildon & East Thurrock, recently visited Lincewood School, and discussed the return to fully opening up after coronavirus restrictions.

Stephen discussed, with the school head teacher Mrs. Braithwaite, about catching up with lost work and ensuring that pupils did not fall behind on their learning.

Stephen met with other staff members and thanked them for their efforts during the difficult times.

In addition, Stephen spoke about issues around social interaction as many children have missed out on ‘normal’ school life – sharing assemblies, playing together in whole school settings as opposed to year bubbles and learning to socialise as well as learn.

Stephen Metcalfe said: “There is no substitute for face-to-face classroom education and that is why I support Mrs. Braithwaite taking the decision to open back up fully.

It is vital that pupils at a young age, not only learn but also are able to socialise and grow their emotional intelligence as well as their academic intellect – this cannot be done virtually.

It was excellent to meet staff and see the wonderful work they do, especially seeing newly qualified teachers who have themselves been through the struggle of learning remotely.

Now we are seeing schools opening up fully we can get back to delivering the high level of education that our young people deserve.”
