Stephen Metcalfe MP Visits Case New Holland, Basildon’s Engineering Powerhouse

12 Oct Stephen Metcalfe MP Visits Case New Holland, Basildon’s Engineering Powerhouse

Stephen Metcalfe, MP for South Basildon & East Thurrock, visited Case New Holland in Basildon for their Tractor Plant Family Open Day on 8th October.

Case New Holland (CNH Industrial) held an open day at the weekend so that local families could get an insight into the engineering innovation that goes on right here in Basildon. After arriving at the site, visitors were given tour of the Engineering Hub and then the Tractor Production Line.

CNH’s innovative new T6 Tractor, which is powered entirely by methane, was on show. Farmers can create a truly CO2-neutral business with the T6, using energy crops and agricultural waste to generate biomethane which can then be used to fuel the T6. With 30% lower running costs, 99% fewer particulates, and the same power as its diesel equivalent, it is a great eco-friendly alternative.

Alternative fuels like methane are essential if the UK is going decarbonise the agricultural industry and meet its important target of Net Zero by 2050. Companies like CNH are essential for a pro-growth green transition. With green energy comes green engineering and green jobs.

Stephen Metcalfe also discussed CNH’s contribution to Britain’s engineering heritage. Its HQ in Basildon is important locally, nationally, and internationally.

Stephen Metcalfe said: “It was fascinating to learn about the innovation going on at Case New Holland’s HQ. It is incredible to think that the tractors built here are being used by farmers across the world.

Their new methane-powered tractor is a feat of engineering. To have it built in Basildon is great for the area. I’m proud of CNH’s hardworking employees and the contribution they make to tackling our biggest single challenge – climate change.

I look forward to continuing to work with CNH in the years to come.”
