18 Dec Stephen Metcalfe MP embraces Envoy role as he visits Museum of Power
Stephen Metcalfe, local Member of Parliament for South Basildon & East Thurrock made the most of his Envoy role as he recently visited the Museum of Power in Langford.
In his role as Government Envoy for the Year of Engineering, Mr Metcalfe heard about the Museum’s future expansion plans and celebrated their 20th Anniversary on their current site.
The seed for the museum was originally planted in Basildon, where Basildon Borough Council initially provided accommodation for a collection of engineering memorabilia.
However, it was not long before the collection out grew its Basildon Site and moved to Langford.
The Museum, now housed in a former Water Pumping Station, contains a fascinating collection which ranges from a working overhead machine shop to a petrol powered iron. The jewel in the crown is “Marshall” a ‘Lilleshall’ triple expansion steam pump now back on steam after 50 years.
Stephen said: I was delighted to be invited to the event and to share in their exciting plans. I was also delighted that the Museum wants to play an active role in the Year of Engineering and hope that many other similar organisations will follow their lead.”
