13 Jun Stephen Metcalfe MP discusses LTC proposal with team at Dartford Crossing Control Centre
Stephen Metcalfe, MP for South Basildon & East Thurrock, recently visited the Dartford Crossing Control Centre to hear about capacity challenges, the history of the crossing and what the future holds.
On Friday 9 June, Stephen visited the Dartford Crossing Control Centre to meet with the Lower Thames Crossing (LTC) team and discuss the challenges the existing crossing faces.
Matt Palmer, Executive Director of the LTC, and David Cook, Operations Lead of National Highways, briefed Stephen on the operation of the Control Centre and how they manage the volume of traffic that crosses the Thames each day.
Stephen Metcalfe said: “I am grateful to the LTC team for inviting me to the Dartford Crossing Control Centre and for showing me first-hand the daily challenges they face. There is no doubt the existing crossing is operating above design capacity and that causes a significant number of problems each year that delay journeys which often spill on to local roads causing us all disruption. We all accept that something needs to be done to improve the situation, but I remain unconvinced that the LTC as proposed will provide the solution we need.”
Stephen added: “Whilst I do not share the views of the LTC team, I am grateful for their continued engagement and hope that by working together we can find a solution that addresses the challenges at the current crossing and respects the views of local residents.”
