17 Aug Special edition Bugatti Baby II to feature in Pebble Beach Auctions presented by Gooding & Company
The 2023 Bugatti Baby II, a one-of-one, 75% scale electric reimagination of the famous Bugatti Type 35, will be sold at Gooding & Company’s Pebble Beach Auctions, which take place August 18 and 19 amidst Pebble Beach Automotive Week.
Hand-built by The Little Car Company’s team of engineers at their UK headquarters in Oxfordshire, the Baby II has been developed using a 3D scan of the original 1924 Grand Prix car, and the aluminium bodywork is hand-formed to offer true authenticity to the original. Powered by an electric motor, the Baby II provides a modern twist on an unforgettable classic.
The 2023 Bugatti Baby II that will be up for auction at Pebble Beach is a one-of-a-kind, specially curated example of the scaled classic. Finished in a wonderful Gunpowder Black paint combination, with a striking gold-plated radiator and headlights, this one-of-one is a truly unique collectible for Bugatti devotees, featuring hand-painted numbering to celebrate the 72nd anniversary of the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance®. Adorned with a genuine, solid silver Bugatti Macaron badge, the 2023 Bugatti Baby II symbolises and embodies the exclusivity, luxury and craftsmanship that has stood for over 110 years.
Together, The Little Car Company and Bugatti have ensured the Bugatti Baby II is true to its predecessor, with identical suspension and geometry providing authentic handling. This authenticity translates into the cockpit as well, with the turned aluminium dashboard reflecting that of the original Type 35.
The Bugatti Baby II is available in three versions: Base, Vitesse and Pur Sang. This particular 2023 example is a Vitesse, which features stunning, lightweight carbon fibre bodywork and significant performance boosts. A high-performance powertrain provides 60% more power than the base model, while a long-range 2.8 kWh battery pack offers a 50% increase in range.
Modern adaptations have also been implemented, such as the fuel pressure gauge transformed into a battery gauge, and in a nod to the Bugatti Veyron, the oil gauge has transitioned into a power gauge. The adjustable pedals are machined from solid aluminium billet and display the famous ‘EB’ logo, while the fuel pump has been reproduced, but now serves as the forward, neutral and reverse selector.
